[Library Board on May 1, 2024.]
CHAIR GAZA.AND, UM, STEVE, IF YOU WOULD PLEASE MISS, IF YOU WOULD PLEASE, UH, TAKE ROLL.
AND, UM, ALTERNATE MEMBER MCGEE HERE.
WAS ANY, UH, PUBLIC COMMENT SENT IN? THERE WERE NO PUBLIC COMMENTS SUBMITTED.
AND NO ONE IS HERE AT THE MEETING PRESENT.
SO WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE CONSENT AGENDA.
I LOOK FEBRUARY THE WARRANTS CONSENT AGENDA, AND I ALSO SECOND HAVE A, UM, IN ADDITION TO THE, UH, AGENDA TO THE, UH, MINUTES OF MARCH 6TH.
SO FOR WARRANTS, UM, WE'LL PULL THE WARRANTS.
DO WE HAVE A SECOND TO APPROVE WARRANTS, PLEASE? NO, WE'RE NOT, WE'RE NOT.
ARE YOU JUST GONNA, WE'RE GONNA, WHY DON'T WE JUST LOOK AT ALL THREE SEPARATELY? OKAY.
WE'LL LOOK AT 'EM ALL SEPARATELY.
SO, APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA DATE, MAY 1ST, 2024.
SO THE NEXT THING YOU HAVE IN ADDITION TO ADD TO OUR MEETING, UH, MINUTES FROM MARCH 6TH.
SO, UM, SO FIR FIRST WE'LL, UH, APPROVE THE AGENDA, IF YOU RECALL, ROLE FOR THAT.
ALRIGHT, I WILL FOR AGENDA APPROVAL.
UM, WE'LL START WITH MARGARET.
SO WE HAVE APPROVAL FOR, UM, THE AGENDA FROM LAST MEETING.
AND THERE WAS AN ASTERISK, UM, WHERE IT HAD SAID THAT, UM, TRISTAN HAD ASKED ABOUT IF WE PARTICIPATED IN ONE BOOK, ONE SAN DIEGO.
TRUSTEE COMMENTS, COMMUNICATIONS ON THE BACK.
SO WE, UM, WE DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN ONE BOOK, ONE SAN DIEGO, WHICH TRADITIONALLY, UM, I KNOW THE COUNTY AND THE CITY DOES.
I'M NOT SURE IF THE OTHER LIBRARIES WITHIN SAN DIEGO ALSO, UM, PARTICIPATE.
UH, BUT IT IS SOMETHING WE CAN LOOK INTO FOR NEXT YEAR.
SO I'LL LOOK ON SAN DIEGO, BUT THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE ADDED.
'CAUSE IT WAS NOT IN THERE, RIGHT? IT WAS JUST AN ASTERISK.
SEE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT? YEAH.
UM, THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS ABOUT MINUTES? OKAY.
MOVE TO, UH, APPROVE THE AGENDA.
MOVING A SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MARCH 6TH MINUTES.
WE'LL GO ON NOW TO THE WARRANTS.
MS. PO LOPEZ, DID YOU HAVE SOMETHING YOU WANTED TO WANT? YES.
UM, I WANNA SAY, GET CLARIFICATION ON THE PROCESS FOR THE SCHOOL.
UTILIZE SUSTAINABLE GRANTS, UH, BECAUSE I HEARD THAT THERE WAS AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN OUR BOARD OR THE LIBRARY AND THE CITY THAT THEY NEEDED TO SEE SOME RELEASE OF LIABILITY BEFORE IT WAS PURCHASED.
UM, SO THE, THE MAYOR HAD ASKED FOR A PRESENTATION ONCE THE LIBRARY WAS UP AND RUNNING.
WE HAVE ALREADY GONE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY FOR APPROVAL OF ALL OF OUR DOCUMENTATION IN TERMS OF LENDING ITEMS, LIABILITY WAIVERS, ALL OF THAT.
SO THAT HAS ALL BEEN APPROVED BY THE CITY.
UM, AND THE GRANT WAS APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL AND MAYOR.
BUT ONCE WE GET IT UP AND RUNNING, WE'LL DO A PRESENTATION ON THE BENEFIT.
SO IT'S NOT UP AND RUNNING IN, IT'S NOT UP AND RUNNING YET.
WE'RE, AS YOU CAN SEE, WE'RE PURCHASING MANY OF THE MATERIALS CURRENTLY AND WE ARE CREATING THE SPACE THAT'S GONNA LIVE IN AS WELL AS THE NEW DATABASE THAT'S GONNA GO WITH IT.
SO I BELIEVE WE WOULD NEED TO SEE THE, THE BOARD WOULD ALSO NEED TO SEE THE PAPERWORK AND APPROVE IT.
WE WOULD HAVE TO, WE WOULD HAVE TO APPROVE OF THE RULES.
AND I CAN LOOK INTO THAT I AND PROCESS THAT WOULD BE USED.
[00:05:01]
YOU KNOW, WHAT MECHANISMS ARE BEING USED AND WHAT HAPPENS IF UH, TOOLS ARE NOT RETURNED.ALL OF THE POLICY, I THINK WE NEED TO LOOK AT THE POLICY AND APPROVE THE POLICY AS A BOARD.
DEFINITELY HAVE THAT ON THE NEXT MEETING FOR YOU.
COULD, COULD YOU, UM, DESCRIBE THE, UM, THE MATRIX DATABASE? UH, WHAT IS, WHAT IS DATABASE? HOLD ON ONE SECOND.
YEAH, SO THE MATRIX DATABASE IS THE DATABASE THAT WE USE FOR THE LITERACY DEPARTMENTS.
SO IT HOUSES ALL THE DEMOGRAPHIC DATA, HOURS OF TUTORING AND ALL THE VOLUNTEER DATA FOR THE LITERACY DEPARTMENT.
I ALSO HAD ON, UH, TOOLS UTIL UTILIZE.
UM, I, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE, UM, AN ITEMIZATION OF WHAT THINGS HAVE BEEN BOUGHT SO FAR.
IF YOU COULD JUST BRING US A, A LIST OF HOW THE MONEY IS BEING SPENT.
I BELIEVE THERE WAS AN EXPENDITURE THIS TIME AND ALSO A PRIOR ONE, CORRECT? CORRECT.
SO WE'VE GOTTEN, UM, WE'VE GOTTEN TWO CHECKS FROM THE GRANT.
SO WE'RE GONNA SEE BOTH OF THOSE.
AND SO IT'S KIND OF BEEN BROKEN UP THAT WAY, BUT WE DO HAVE A LIST OF THE TOOLS THAT ARE GONNA BE ORDERED FOR THE PROGRAM AND HOW MUCH THEY COST.
SO I CAN DEFINITELY BRING THAT AS WELL WITH, UM, THE WHOLE PACKET OF THE EWE LIVE LIBRARY.
WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY, ALSO, WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY PURCHASED.
CAN YOU REMIND ME, THIS MIGHT HAPPEN NEXT MEETING AT, I WON'T BE HERE ANYWAY, BUT, UM, I'M JUST CURIOUS, WHAT HAPPENS IF STUDENT DOESN RETURN? IS THERE A DEPOSIT THAT IS REQUIRED SO THERE'S NO DEPOSIT THAT'S REQUIRED? IT IS SORT OF THE SAME IDEA.
LIKE IF YOU WERE TO LOSE A BOOK, SO YOU WOULD BE SENT TO A COLLECTION AGENCY AND THEN, YOU KNOW, WOULD HIT YOUR CREDIT A LITTLE BIT IF YOU DIDN'T RETURN THOSE ITEMS. UM, AND THEN WE ALSO WOULD DO, PROBABLY LIKE IF SOMEBODY WERE TO LOSE AN ITEM OR BREAK SOMETHING ACCIDENTALLY, WE COULD ASK THEM TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE EXACT SAME ITEM.
SO THAT'S THE KIND OF POLICY THAT WE NEED TO SEE.
I, I'M MOVE TO APPROVE THE LINES.
UH, MOTION TO APPROVE THE WARRANTS.
ALRIGHT, WE'RE GOING TO GO THANK YOU.
A BOARD, WE'RE GONNA GO ON TO NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS, THE SELECTION FOR THE NATIONAL CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY MURAL LIBRARY.
SO AS YOU, IF YOU WANNA LOOK IN THE BACK OF YOUR PACKET, YOU HAVE OUR AGENDA REPORT INCLUDED.
UM, IT WAS, UH, WE HAVE AN ARTIST WHO, BROOKLYN TOULA VISTA, BUT I BELIEVE SHE LIVES HERE CURRENTLY.
AND SHE, UM, SHE'S RECOMMENDED BY THE CITY, UM, UH, CITY MANAGER TO ME.
SHE CAME IN, SHE LOOKED AT OUR SPACE AND SO THESE ARE THE FOUR OPTIONS THAT SHE PRESENTED TO US FOR A MURAL IN THE CHILDREN'S AREA OF THE LIBRARY.
UM, SO WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO RANK YOUR CHOICES, UM, ONE THROUGH FOUR.
UM, AND THEN ONCE YOU GUYS HAVE DECIDED ON A MURAL, WE'LL PRESENT IT TO THE, UM, PUBLIC ARTS COMMITTEE.
THEY'LL MAKE THE RECOMMENDATIONS AND LEVEL WILL PRESENT IT TO THE CITY COUNCIL.
VERY, WHERE EXACTLY WILL THIS BE PLACED? SO, BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF MANY OF THE MURALS, THEY HAVE TO BE ON A SOLID WALL.
SO, UM, IF YOU VISITED THE LIBRARY, AS YOU WALK IN TO THE LEFT, THERE'S A BANK OF COMPUTERS.
AND SO IT WOULD GO AGAINST THAT BACK WALL, THE BANK OF COMPUTERS AS YOU GO INTO THE DIFFERENT AREA.
SO THIS WAS PRESENTED TO THE COUNCIL BEFORE IT CAME TO THE ARTS COMMISSION OR TO US.
AND, AND THE ARTS COMMISSION STILL HASN'T CORRECT.
APPROVED OF IT OR, OR SEEN IT OR DISCUSSED IT.
AND I WOULD REALLY FEEL MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE IF WE WERE TOGETHER WITH ARTS COMMISSION, IF WE HAD SOME KIND OF A JOINT MEETING WITH THEM TO DISCUSS IT.
WELL, WE, WELL THEIR NEXT MEETING IS GOING TO BE MAY 28TH, I BELIEVE.
BECAUSE I THINK THAT, I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S REALLY CLEAR, YOU KNOW, WITH THE CITY WHAT THE
[00:10:01]
PROCESS IS, BUT I THINK THAT MOST THINGS GO BEFORE THE ARTS COMMISSION.AND MAYBE THIS IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT.
MAYBE IT'S NOT, YOU KNOW, THE FACT THAT IT'S COMING FROM THE CITY MANAGER, RATHER THAN US SAYING, WE WANNA PUT OUT THIS BID FOR PEOPLE TO, TO PAINT A MURAL ON OUR WALL AND HAVE BIDS COME IN.
IT'S JUST A VERY DIFFERENT PROCESS.
SO THAT'S WHAT I, I WOULD FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE.
I I I HAVE, YEAH, I, I'M, I'M SORT OF, I JUST FEEL STRANGE ABOUT HOW THIS WAS DONE.
I'M SURPRISED THAT THIS DIDN'T GO THROUGH THE ART COMMISSION FIRST.
IT WAS A RECOMMENDATION, YOU KNOW, AND I, I FEEL LIKE MAYBE WE'RE STEPPING ON THEIR FEET A LITTLE BIT.
IT WAS A, IT WAS A RECOMMENDATION BY THE CITY MANAGER TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS THAT WE PRESENTED TO CITY COUNCIL SINCE THEY'RE ULTIMATELY GOING TO MAKE THE FINAL DECISION ON WHAT PIECE IS PUT INTO THE LIBRARY.
UM, BUT AFTER CITY COUNCIL REVIEWED, THEY DECIDED THEY WOULD LIKE YOUR INPUT AS WELL AS ART'S INPUT, AND THEN THEY WILL MAKE THE FINAL DECISION BASED OFF OF YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS.
SO IS THERE ANY, ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT MEETING TOGETHER? UM, I THINK, I MEAN, IF YOU, YOU'RE ABLE TO TAKE OUR NOTES AND GIVE IT TO THE MEMBERS OF THE
I DON'T, WHEN IS THAT MEETING AGAIN? APRIL, OR, I'M SORRY, MAY 28TH AT 3:00 PM SO OUT OF TODAY, IT'LL JUST BE WHAT WE APPROVED OR SO, SO THE CITY COUNCIL WANTS THE RECOMMENDATION FROM BOTH THE LIBRARY BOARD AS WELL AS THE ARTS COMMITTEE.
SO ULTIMATELY THE CITY COUNCIL WILL STILL MAKE THE FINAL DECISION.
THEY WOULD JUST LIKE TO HEAR YOUR INPUT IN TERMS OF RANKING WHERE YOU, YOUR PREFERENCES OF THE ART PIECES, AS WELL AS ARTS COMMITTEE RANKING THEIR OWN PREFERENCES.
AND THEN YOU PRESENT THAT TO THEM.
DO YOU THINK IT COULD BE A LESS FORMAL MEETING WITH THE ARTS FOLKS AND JUST LIKE ON ZOOM, I CAN'T DO A THREE O'CLOCK MEETING ON THAT TODAY.
IS IT WORK? BUT I WOULD BE, I'D LOVE TO HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT
IT WOULDN'T NECESSARILY HAVE TO BE AT THEIR MEETING.
IT, IT COULD BE JUST A, AS YOU SAY, AN INFORMAL MEETING WITH MORE OF, UH, ON THE WORK, THE PUBLIC MEETINGS AT.
SO ESSENTIALLY YOU, BECAUSE YOU WOULD HAVE TO MEET AS, IT WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO BE INFORMAL.
'CAUSE IT HAS TO BE VOTED ON AS YOUR BOARD AND AS THE ARTS BOARD.
WE WOULDN'T BE VOTING ON IT THEN THOUGH.
IT, IT WOULD JUST BE LIKE TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHAT'S THE, WITH, WITH THE PROCESS IS.
UM, SO I MEAN THERE'S, I MEAN, LIKE, I, LIKE, UH, JAKE MENTIONED WE CAN DO A VOTE.
YOU GUYS CAN MARK YOUR 1, 2, 3, 4 RECOMMENDATIONS.
ARTS CAN DO A VOTE AND MARK THEIR 1, 2, 3, 4.
UM, BUT I DO THINK IT'S GONNA BE MORE DIFFICULT TO HAVE YOU GUYS MEET IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE APRIL, 2018 OR THE MAY 28TH MEETING.
THEY'VE ALREADY CHANGED MULTIPLE, UM, COMMITTEE MEETINGS, BOARD MEMBERS, AND AVAILABILITY.
SO THIS ONE WE WERE ACTUALLY SUPPOSED TO MEET WITH OUR PREVIOUS MEETING WITH YOU IS, BUT THEY'RE MEETING IN APRIL WAS CANCELED.
SO YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO MEET WITH THEM PRIOR TO MEETING WITH US.
SO WHY DON'T WE PUT OFF OUR DISCUSSION UNTIL THEY'VE DISCUSSED IT BE SPENDING FOR.
UM, SO THE MONEY FROM THIS IS FROM THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE, WHICH I BELIEVE HE HAD BUDGETED TO SPEND OR AT LEAST START THE PROJECT BEFORE THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR.
AND SO THAT WAS WHY THEY WANTED TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS BY JUST PRESENTING IT TO CITY COUNCIL PRIOR TO, UM, SENDING IT TO YOU GUYS.
SO THAT WAS THE, THE THOUGHT BEHIND IT.
AND THIS MEETING IS AT THE END OF MAY.
AND THEN WE MEET AT THE BEGINNING OF JUNE.
SO THERE STILL WOULD BE TIME TO PROVE IT.
SO I GUESS, I MEAN, MY ONLY THOUGHT IS BECAUSE THE ULTIMATE DECIDER WILL BE THE CITY COUNCIL.
IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST ADVISED FOR.
I MEAN, I GUESS I COULD SEE MY RANKING MIGHT BE SWAYED BY WHATEVER THE MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARTS COMMITTEE SAYS.
BUT ULTIMATELY THAT ALL JUST GETS AGGREGATED AND THE INDIVIDUAL COUNCIL MEMBERS WILL WEIGH THOSE RANKINGS OR WHAT, YOU KNOW, RECOMMENDATIONS, BUT ULTIMATELY MAKE THEIR OWN CHOICE.
I FEEL LIKE I MIGHT BE, I I'M MORE IN FAVOR OF JUST GOING ALONG THE RANKING FOR US.
SO PUBLIC ARTS SEES IT AND THEN PUBLIC ARTS MAKES THEIR CHOICE AND THEN THE CITY COUNCIL SEES BOTH COMMITTEES, UM,
[00:15:01]
THOUGHTS OR RANKINGS ON IT.YEAH, I DON'T, I'M IT'S NOT SO MUCH THE, UM, BEING SWAYED.
IT'S THE UNDERSTANDING WHAT THE PROCESS IS, WHAT SHOULD GO FIRST.
WELL, I'M NOT, THAT'S REALLY WHAT I'M MOST CONCERNED ABOUT.
SO TYPICALLY THE PROCESS WOULD BE IF IT'S LIKE A, A CITY FACILITY AND IT'S, LET'S SAY IT'S A PUBLIC WORK OUTSIDE, THEY WOULD PRESENT IT TO ARTS FIRST BECAUSE IT'S A, A PUBLIC ARTWORK WHERE THE LIBRARY'S A LITTLE DIFFERENT BECAUSE WE HAVE OUR OWN BOARD OF ADVISORY BOARD.
UM, THAT'S WHY WE, THEY ASK FOR YOUR INPUT AS WELL.
UM, SO TRADITIONALLY WHEN YOU SUBMIT ANY SORT OF ART, IT JUST COMES FROM THE PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE, BUT THEY WANTED YOUR INPUT AS WELL, OBVIOUSLY AS OUR LIBRARY BOARD.
DO YOU HAPPEN TO REMEMBER THE LAST HER NAME IS GUERRERO.
SHE HAS, UM, UH, I BELIEVE AN INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT WITH SEVERAL OTHER, UM, ARTWORKS I'VE SEEN AROUND, UM, NATIONAL CITY AND
I DON'T WANT TO GET TOO FAR OFF TOPIC, BUT JUST ON THE GENERAL TOP HIGH LEVEL TOPIC, THE SELECTION OF MURAL.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PUBLIC ARTS COMMITTEE NORMALLY DOES FOR, LET'S SAY, FACILITIES OUTSIDE THE LIBRARY, BUT DOES IT USUALLY HAVE MORE OF A RIGOROUS OR OPEN SELECTION PROCESS FOR THE ARTIST? KIND LIKE A CALL FOR ANY ARTIST TO SUBMIT PROPOSALS ON HOW THEY THINK OR PROPOSALS FOR THE ARTS, THEN THEY CAN MAKE A DECISION VERSUS KIND OF LIKE THE POINTED CIVIL SELECTION OF SOMEBODY.
UM, SO WE'VE, WE'VE NEVER HAD ANY ART INSTALLATIONS AND, OR AT LEAST I HAVEN'T BEEN HERE WHEN THERE'S BEEN AN ARTIST INSTALLATION, SO I'M NOT SURE EXACTLY HOW THE BIDDING PROCESS WORKS.
UM, THIS ARTIST WAS A RECOMMENDATION BY THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE AND, UM, THEY WERE THE ONES WHO AGREED TO FUND THE PROJECT.
SO I THINK IT DEPENDS ON THE FUNDING SOURCE.
IT MAY BE A NUMBER OF OTHER THINGS IN TURN USING A GRANT OR A HISTORICAL SITE OR, UM, OTHER FACTORS THAT LEAD INTO IT.
AS FAR AS I KNOW FROM MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS IS THAT TYPICALLY IT IS PUBLIC, UM, ARTS COMMITTEE.
THEY SORT OF MAKE THE FINAL DECISION OR MAKE THE FINAL APPROVAL OF WHAT'S SUBMITTED TO THEM.
AND THEN THAT IS APPROVED BY CITY COUNCIL AFTERWARD.
SO THEY ALSO, I BELIEVE IF THERE IS A, UM, LIKE SOMEBODY BIDS OUT SOMETHING, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE LIKE, WHAT? IT'LL COST US $50,000.
THE PUBLIC ARTS COMMITTEE MAKES THAT APPROVAL.
LIKE, THIS IS SOMETHING WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE AND IT CAN BE FUNDED THROUGH THIS SOURCE.
ARE WE ABLE TO GET INPUT ON THE ACTUAL ALREADY? SO THESE ARE THE, THE, UM, THE FOUR CHOICES SHE SENT US.
UM, I MEAN, WE, WE COULD GO BACK TO HER AND SUGGEST OTHER THINGS, BUT OF COURSE THAT'S JUST, THAT'S GONNA EXTEND THE PROCESS.
BECAUSE ON, ON THAT POINT, I MEAN, I THINK ANYTHING BETTER THAN A BLANK WALL.
AND I, I THINK THESE ARE GREAT, BUT YOU KNOW, THE WHOLE IDEA OF SELECTING AN ARTIST, EACH ARTIST HAS THEIR OWN STYLE.
AND THESE ARE, ALTHOUGH DIFFERENT, HAVE A LOT OF SIMILARITIES.
BUT AGAIN, IT'S HARD TO REALLY COMPARE.
BUT I MEAN, IF IT'S, IF IT'S THIS ARTIST ARE KNOWN, THEN AT LEAST YOU MAKE THAT THE RANKINGS.
BUT I GUESS I'M JUST EXPRESSING A MORE, MORE OF A DESIRE TO HAVE A OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
ANY, WHETHER IT'S A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT, IT SWEETWATER THAT WANTS TO GET ON PHOTOSHOP AND DO SOMETHING AND COMPETE OR, OR, SO THE, THE ARTIST IS ACTUALLY ONLY CHARGING US FOR ESSENTIALLY SUPPLIES AND NOT FOR HER TIME THAT SHE'S GONNA COMMIT TO SPENDING CREATING A MURAL.
UM, SO I BELIEVE THAT'S PROBABLY A KEY FACTOR IN WHY THEY CHOSE HER.
TYPICALLY A MURAL IS ABOUT $40,000 TO CREATE.
SHE'S GONNA CHARGE US BETWEEN EIGHT AND $10,000 FOR SUPPLIES.
UM, SO I THINK THAT WAS PART OF THE REASONING BEHIND WHY THEY CHOSE HER.
UM, AND I BELIEVE THE PHOTOS SHE CHOSE OR THE IMAGES SHE PRESENTED, SHE WANTED TO FIT INTO LIKE THE LIBRARY THEME, NATIONAL CITY THEME.
LOOKING AT HER WORK ONLINE, MOST OF THE CLERK SHE PROVIDED US, SHE'S ALREADY DRAWN 'EM EVERYWHERE ELSE.
SO IT DOESN'T REALLY MAKE IT UNIQUE TO OUR LIBRARY AND OUR CITY JUST AT THE SAME RENDITION, THE WORK.
[00:20:01]
BECAUSE I, I UNDERSTAND THE IDEA OF, AGAIN, THIS DONE BEFORE FISCAL YEAR, UM, AND WE ARE ADVISING PUBLIC ARTS IS ADVISING.UM, WOULD IT BE PO THE LIBRARY IS SUCH A SPECIAL PLACE IN THE COMMUNITY, UM, WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE DURING THAT TIME BEFORE IT'S THE ACTUAL, EVEN YOU'RE SENDING OUT THE AGENDA FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING WHERE THEY'RE VOTING ON IT? MM-HMM.
BECAUSE I'VE SEEN A LOT OF ART.
I DO, LIKE IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION, THEY DO A LOT OF LIKE, ART CONTESTS FOR LIKE LAW WEEK.
TODAY'S LIKE DANCE LAW DAY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT TODAY, HIGH SCHOOL.
BUT WE VOTE ON, YOU KNOW, WHO SHOULD WIN.
I MEAN, I, I DON'T WANT TO PUT ANY BURDEN ON THE LIBRARY, BUT I THINK EVEN IF IT'S AS SIMPLE AS EVERYBODY THAT WALKS IN SAY, HEY, DO YOU WANT TO PUT YOUR VOTE IN FOR THE RECOMMENDED OUT OF THESE FOUR? JUST TO KIND OF GET ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE BESIDES, 'CAUSE I DON'T THINK IT, AGAIN, OUR ADVICE OR OUR RECOMMENDATION IS JUST SOMETHING NICE TO HAVE.
IT'S NOT REQUIRED NOR WOULD IN PUBLIC INPUT BE REQUIRED.
UM, BUT AGAIN, SOMETHING THAT, UM, WE, WE COULD DO PUBLIC INPUT.
UM, I HAVE TO TALK TO THE CITY MANAGER ABOUT WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE.
UM, BUT I THINK, LIKE I SAID, ULTIMATELY THE CITY COUNCIL MAKES THAT DECISION.
SO HE MAY BE LESS INCLINED TO HAVE ADDITIONAL, YOU KNOW, CHOICES FOR THEM.
UM, I THINK HE IS REALLY HOPING THAT YOU AND COMMITTEE WOULD PICK ONE
AND THAT WOULD BE YOUR RECOMMENDATION.
WELL I'LL, I'LL TELL YOU OPTION FOUR IS MY TOP SO FAR
I LIKE, I THINK THAT COULD WE SEND FORWARD OUR BOTH BUT WITH A STATEMENT THING THAT WE WOULD HAVE PREFERRED TO HAVE HAD A SELECTION ARTISTS JUST TO SURE.
I MEAN IF YOU ALL AGREE WITH THAT, IT WOULD'VE BEEN NICE TO OR TO CLAR TO CLARIFY WHAT, WHAT THE POLICY IS, WHAT THE PROCEDURE IS.
SO THAT WE KNOW WHAT TO FALL BACK ON MM-HMM.
IF THINGS SHOULD BE GOING THROUGH THE ARTS COMMISSION, THEN WE KNOW THAT THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST STEP.
OR YOU KNOW, I THINK THIS IS REALLY A VERY, UM, DIFFERENT SITUATION WHERE THE CITY MANAGER'S MAKING THE MOVE.
HE'S THE ONE THAT IS, THAT IS TALK WITH THE, WITH THE ARTIST AND THEN APPROACH THE LIBRARY, WHICH IS TO ME IS A LITTLE UNUSUAL.
THAT'S, THAT'S NOT, UH, THE CORRECT PROCEDURE.
HE DIDN'T, WE, I HAD SUGGESTED THAT WE DO A MURAL IN THE LIBRARY BECAUSE IT NEEDED A LITTLE LIFE.
UM, I HAD ORIGINALLY THOUGHT OF WORKING WITH ARTS ACROSS THE PARK.
UM, BUT THEN I MET WITH THE CITY MANAGER AND HE WAS THE ONE WHO SUGGESTED THIS ARTIST.
SO I DID APPROACH HIM ABOUT HAVING A MURAL, BUT IT WAS, UM, HIS SUGGESTION FOR THIS PARTICULAR MURALIST, HAS THE MURALIST RECEIVED ANY DEPOSIT ON? SO WE HAVEN'T PAID HER, WE HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING YET.
SHE'S JUST WAITING TO HEAR OUR FEEDBACK.
AND THEN, UM, WHAT THE, WHEN WE'RE GONNA HAVE A TIMELINE, WE
IT FEELS LIKE WE'RE SETTING HOW WELL THAT'S YEAH.
THAT'S I THINK WAS THE SO DO WE, DO WE WANT TO, I MEAN, 'CAUSE WE ARE MEETING, I'M MEETING WITH THE PUBLIC ARTS COMMITTEE ON THE 28TH.
SO OUR NEXT MEETING IS ON THE FOURTH THING.
UM, SO I MEAN, I, I SHOULD GO TO PUBLIC ARTS FIRST.
YOU COULD GET THEIR OPINIONS AND THEN WE CAN COME BACK TO YOU.
BUT IT IS JUST GONNA EXTEND THE PROCESS.
THAT'S THE ONLY, UM, AND THEN IT WOULD GO TO THE NEXT CITY COUNCIL MEETING, UM, WHICH WOULD BE NOT UNTIL THE 18TH.
SO JUST TO CLARIFY, IF WE DID WAIT, THAT WOULD BE ME.
THAT WE WOULD KIND OF HAVE TO JUMP TO THE NEXT CITY COUNCIL MEETING, SEE THE LAST CITY COUNCIL MEETING THIS FISCAL YEAR.
AND THEN THEY TAKE A BREAK IN JULY.
SO THEN WE DIDN'T GET IT ON THAT AGENDA.
SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET ON THE AGENDA THOUGH.
UH, WE DO HAVE BUDGET NEGOTIATIONS STARTING, UH, ON FRIDAY.
SO A LOT OF THE AGENDAS ARE BEING MINIMIZED SO THAT WE CAN FOCUS ON, ON THAT.
DO YOU KNOW, I'M JUST CURIOUS,
[00:25:01]
THE PUBLIC ARTS COMMITTEE, HOW THEY SELECT, IS IT ACTUAL VOTES? THEY ACTUALLY HAVE TO VOTE IN ALL, LIKE THE MAJORITY HAS TO APPROVE, LET'S SAY OPTIONS FOR, SO THE WHAT, THE WAY WE WROTE THE AGENDA REPORT IS SPECIFICALLY ABOUT RANKING THEM IN TERMS OF BOTH THE PUBLIC ARTS COMMITTEE AND THE LIBRARY.SO THAT WAY, JUST IN CASE CITY COUNCIL DOES NOT LIKE THEIR FIRST CHOICE OR WHATEVER IT HAPPENS TO BE, THEY DO HAVE THE OPTION OF CHOOSING ONE OF THE OTHERS.
AND THEN IT'S JUST BASED ON, YOU KNOW, LET'S SAY THREE OF YOU REALLY ENJOY ONE AND TWO OF YOU ENJOY TWO.
AND THEN THE PUBLIC ARTS COMMITTEE HAS THEIR OWN SELECTION.
AND THEN WE JUST CHOOSE THE ONE THAT THEM UP.
BECAUSE, UM, ONE THOUGHT OF MY HEAD IS, YOU KNOW, THIS ISN'T REALLY, I DON'T SEE THIS AS AGENDA ITEM, LIKE SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES A VOTE BY US.
IF WE'RE JUST RANKING LOANS, THERE'S NO ACTUAL QUOTE TO DO ANYTHING.
SO AT AT, AT MINIMUM, WE CAN STILL DO THE RANKING.
SO BECAUSE WE DO THE RANKING, AGAIN, WE'RE NOT DOING THE VOTE RANKING.
AND I'M ASSUMING THAT OUR RANKING WILL BE MEMORIALIZED IN THE MINUTES FOR TODAY'S MEETING.
AND THEN, UM, THEN WE CAN MOVE FORWARD.
I I WOULD, I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT WE AT LEAST DO THE RANKING TODAY.
SO THEN IF, IF WORST CASE SCENARIO, EVERYTHING GOES FAST AND THINGS GET APPROVED WITHOUT ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION FROM US.
UM, BUT MAYBE THAT JUST DEPENDS, HELPS PROCESS GO A LITTLE FASTER.
AND POTENTIALLY WE HAVE ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS IT IN JUNE.
AND I CAN ALWAYS DO A LITTLE REPORT WHEN I COME BACK, YOU KNOW, AFTER THE R CM AND, AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT'S THEIR CHOICE FOR AT LOSS AT THAT JUNE 4TH MEETING.
SO ARE YOU THINKING THAT WE ALL HAVE TO RANK IT IN THE SAME WAY? LIKE WE HAVE TO VOTE ON WHAT'S NUMBER ONE AND WHAT'S NUMBER TWO?
SO US JUST EXPRESSING ON THE RECORD, WHICH WOULD BE MAYBE A PAPER FORM.
WHICH, YOU KNOW, YOU COULD RANK THEM, YOU KNOW, CHOICE ONE IS NUMBER FOUR, CHOICE, YOU KNOW, TWO IS NUMBER, UH, ONE, YOU KNOW, YOU COULD RANK THEM THAT WAY.
AND THEN EACH NUMBER HAS THEIR OWN RANKING.
AND THEN, YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY THE ITEM THAT HAS THE MOST ISN'T GONNA BE NUMBER ONE.
NUMBER FOUR IS THE ONLY ONE I LIKE ACTUALLY.
THE ONLY ONE THAT, THAT'S FINE.
WE COULD JUST MOVE, WE COULD JUST RESORT TO RECOMMEND ONLY NUMBER FOUR.
DO YOU THINK IT'S KIND OF, I MEAN I, YOU KNOW, I WORK FOR THE CITY OR I WORK FOR THE STATE EARLY.
AND IF WE THINK IT'S KIND OF THAT THING SOMETIMES WHERE, UM, YOU GET BUDGET PRESSURES FROM ABOVE AND IT'S LIKE, HURRY UP, SPEND MONEY, AND THEN WE END UP MAKING DECISIONS BECAUSE IT'S SOMEONE ELSE'S TIMELINE AND IT'S, IT CAN BE KIND OF FRUSTRATING.
BUT I FEEL JUST A LITTLE FRUSTRATED.
AND IT'S, IT IS GONNA BE THERE FOR A LONG TIME AND IT SHOULD, IT REALLY WOULD NOT TO BE, NOT TO BE A POINT, BUT IT REALLY WOULD'VE BEEN NICE TO SEE THE PEOPLE, ARTISTS.
SO IT'S KIND TO ME, IT'S JUST SORT OF LIKE THAT'S A MISSED OPPORTUNITY BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE.
JUST WANTED TO EXPRESS THAT AGAIN.
AND, UM, I WOULD ENCOURAGE ANYBODY THAT COULD MAKE THE THREE O'CLOCK MEETING.
I KNOW YOU CAN'T, BUT ON A THURSDAY TO DO SO.
CAN WE JUST GO, WE CAN OH YEAH.
DID WE HAVE ABOUT, WE, ARE WE MAKING RECOMMENDATIONS? A RECOMMENDATION? AND THEN WE'RE COMING BACK? WHAT DO I WELL I THINK, I THINK CLARIFY THAT WE'RE SAYING THAT, THAT WE PREFER OPTION FOUR.
BUT WE WANT TO ATTEND THE MEETINGS THAT WE CAN HAVE A FURTHER DISCUSSION ABOUT IT.
AND JUST, UH, I THINK IT'S GREAT THAT YOU TOOK THE INITIATIVE TO BRING UP TO THE CITY MANAGER ABOUT THE MURAL.
AND I'M EXCITED TO SEE WHAT WHATEVER OPTION IT TR WE'RE
[00:30:01]
TRYING TO GIVE IT A LITTLE MORE COLOR CHILDREN THERE.IT'S JUST A LITTLE, A LITTLE DROP THE DISTRACTION BROKE WINDOWS.
WELL, I DO HAVE SOME UPDATES ABOUT THE WINDOWS.
SO WE'LL GO ON TO THE CITY LIBRARIAN REPORT.
SO THE BROKEN WINDOWS HAVE BEEN FIXED.
UM, THEY'RE ALSO CONTINUING TO WORK ON THE REST OF THE BUILDING.
UM, THEY'RE, THEY'RE, UM, LOOKING INTO A NEW FRONT DOOR FOR US CURRENTLY, LOGISTICALLY, HOW THAT WORKS, ALL THAT KIND OF STUFF.
SO THERE ARE IMPROVEMENTS COMING, UM, TO THE LIBRARY.
WE ALSO HAD OUR PARKING LOT REPAINTED, WHICH IS VERY EXCITING.
UM, SO THEY ARE SLOWLY MOVING ALONG ON SOME OF THESE ISSUES THAT ARE HAPPENING.
AND HOPEFULLY NOW THAT SUMMER IS COMING, NO MORE RAIN, THINGS LIKE THAT, THEY CAN ADDRESS SOME OF THE OTHER ISSUES IN THE GROUP AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
HOW ABOUT, UH, I BELIEVE THERE WERE SOME ISSUES IN THE BATHROOMS. THE CONDITION OF THE BATHROOM.
IS THAT, SO THE, THE CONT THE CONDITIONS OF THE BATHROOMS, WE, UM, WE SHARE JANITORIAL STAFF WITH ALL OF THE REST OF THE CITY.
UM, SO SOMETIMES THEY DON'T PAY AS CLOSE ATTENTION, BUT WE HAVE REQUESTED IN, UH, BUDGET YEAR 25 THAT WE DO HAVE, UM, SOMEBODY ASSIGNED ON A MORE CONSISTENT BASIS TO THE LIBRARY TO MEET THE NEEDS OF A PUBLIC BUILDING THAT WE HAVE.
WELL, I THINK CONSIDERING THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT COME IN HERE EVERY DAY, THAT THAT IS, IT'S RIDICULOUS FOR, FOR US NOT TO BE ON A SCHEDULE, A DAILY SCHEDULE.
SOMETIMES HAVE TO DEPEND ON STAFF TO DO WHAT THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE DOING.
THAT'S HOW I VERY MUCH AGREE WITH YOU.
AND THEY ARE LOOKING AT HIRING A FULL-TIME JANITORIAL, UM, PERSON.
SO, AND I WAS VERY CLEAR WITH OUR, UM, DEPARTMENT HEAD THAT THE LIBRARY NEEDS TO HAVE THAT SERVICE BECAUSE WE ARE SUCH A PUBLIC FACING BUILDING.
I, I'M ON MARGARET, I'M ON TOP OF IT.
UM, WE, SPEAKING OF THE SOLAR CLIP WE WERE TALKING ABOUT EARLIER, WE GAVE AWAY ABOUT 500 GLASSES TO THE COMMUNITY, WHICH WAS VERY EXCITING FOR OUR ELASTIC CLIPS.
UM, DID YOU GO LOOK IN MY BACKYARD? IT WORKS.
SO, UM, AND WE GAVE AWAY GLASSES FOR THE LAST SIX CLIP TOO.
SO IT'S, IT IS REALLY NICE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THAT.
UM, THE COMMUNITY GIVE US FREE WOULD BE TO GET OUT EVERYBODY ELSE.
UM, OUR MANAGEMENT ANALYST TOO, MYRA, WHO MOST OF YOU KNOW, UM, SHE IS NO LONGER WITH US.
BUT, UH, MIC IS GONNA BE ACTING AS OUR MANAGEMENT ANALYST TOO CURRENTLY.
UM, NORMALLY HE IS OUR PROGRAM COORDINATOR FOR OUR LITERACY DEPARTMENT, BUT NOW HE GETS TO TAG ALONG WITH ME FOR FUN MEETINGS AND STUFF LIKE THAT.
SO IF YOU EVER NEED ANYTHING, QUESTIONS, CONCERNS, YOU CAN ALWAYS TALK TO MICKEY.
UM, IF THE, THE LIBRARY AND HE'LL BE DOING A LITTLE A MYRA SORT OF POSTS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
UH, I'M SORRY THAT I DIDN'T MAKE THAT INTRODUCTION OF NIKKI TO YOU.
NO, HE WORKS IN, IN LITERACY DEPARTMENT.
HE IS, UH, SPINNING MANY PLATES IN HIS JOB AND, UH, IS FANTASTIC.
UH, DOES FANTASTIC WORK IN HIS DEPARTMENT.
AND SO WE'RE GLAD TO HAVE YOU HERE WITH US.
WE HAVE ONE OF THE MOST ROBUST DEPARTMENTS IN SAN DIEGO FOR LITERACY.
ACTUALLY PRETTY MUCH CALIFORNIA.
SO THE POSTER CHILD, WE HAVE OUR PICTURES UP AND STUFF, SO HE DOES A FANTASTIC JOB.
UM, WE HAVE A COUPLE OF EVENTS COMING UP THIS MONTH.
WE'RE HAVING OUR MAY THE FOURTH EVENT, WHICH IS OUR STAR WARS DAY SLASH STEAM DAY.
UM, YOU CAN JOIN US FOR CRAFTS THE LIBRARIES FROM ONE TO THREE.
WE'LL HAVE ALL OF OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS THERE.
SO THE FOOD SCIENCE CENTER, ALL OF WOOD GARDENS ARTS, UM, THEY'LL ALL BE THERE.
THEY'LL HAVE STEAM RELATED CRAFTS FOR ALL THE KIDS.
UM, WE'LL BE DOING SLIME, LIGHTSABERS, OTHER REALLY, REALLY FUN STUFF.
UM, AND THAT'S GONNA BE FROM ONE TO THREE.
UH, WE'LL ALSO BE GIVING AWAY STAR WARS BOOKS BECAUSE BOOK LIBRARIES.
UH, OUR OTHER EVENT THAT WE HAVE COMING UP IS GOING TO BE ON THE 18TH.
WE'RE GONNA BE CELEBRATING, UM, THE REPEAL OF THE LOW, UM, LOW RIDER BAND THAT HAPPENED HERE.
UH, SO ON THE 18TH WE WILL HAVE AN EVENT FROM ONE TO FIVE.
THE PARKING LOT WILL BE FILLED WITH LOW RIDERS AND BICYCLES.
WE WILL HAVE, UM, A COUPLE GROUP VENDORS.
[00:35:01]
WE'LL HAVE A DJ OUTSIDE.AND THEN INSIDE THE LIBRARY WE'LL HAVE AN ART DISPLAY, UM, OF ALL OF THE HISTORY OF LOW RIDING AND NATIONAL CITY THROUGH THE AGES.
UM, WE'LL ALSO HAVE A DISPLAY IN OUR ROTUNDA OF SOME UNIQUE ITEMS THAT THEY'VE BROUGHT TO US, AS WELL AS SOME PHOTOS OF OUR LOW RIDERS AND A LITTLE DESCRIPTION OF WHY THEY CHOSE TO BE LOW RIDER, WHAT IT MEANS TO THEM.
AND THEN OF COURSE IN THE KIDS AREA WE'LL HAVE SOME CRAFTS FOR THE KIDS TO DO.
UM, AND THEN IN OUR COMMUNITY ROOM WE'LL HAVE DOCUMENTARIES FEATURING THE WRITERS.
WHICH ONE? IT'LL BE ONE TO FIVE.
UM, IN THE LIBRARY PARKING LOT, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE THE PARK, BUT THE PARKING LOT IN THE PARK BEHIND THE LIBRARY, WE WILL HAVE THAT AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE TO PARK.
SUMMER MEETING WILL BE STARTING IN JUNE.
OUR THEME THIS YEAR IS THE GREAT OUTDOORS TO GO WITH OUR NATURE BACKPACKS AND OUR STATE PARK PASSES.
UM, SO WE'LL HAVE PROGRAMMING FOR KIDS AND TEENS AS WELL AS ADULTS.
WE'LL HAVE A SUMMER READING PROGRAM GEARED TOWARDS CHILDREN AND TEENS, AND THEN AN ADULT VERSION AS WELL.
WE'LL ALSO BE STARTING LUNCH AT THE LIBRARY SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THE PROGRAM.
SO TWICE A WEEK THE KIDS WILL BE ABLE TO COME AND ALSO HAVE, UH, LUNCH PRIOR TO THE PROGRAMMING THAT WE'RE GONNA BE DOING.
AND WE WILL BE PAUSING THE MAJORITY OF OUR REGULAR PROGRAMMING FOR SUMMER TO DO A, A SPECIFIC THEME SUMMER MEETING PROGRAM THAT ARE A LITTLE EARLIER IN THE DAY.
AND THEN OUR TUESDAY THROUGH, UH, FRIDAY OPPORTUNITIES, WE, UM, WE CELEBRATED NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK.
SOME OF OUR MEMBERS HAVE MADE IT TO THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING WHERE THEY DID A PROCLAMATION.
THEY CHANGED THE DATE ON ME LAST MINUTES.
AND I WAS LIKE, OH NO, EVERYBODY'S COMING.
AND SO I WAS, I CALLED THE CITY AMERICAN, WHAT'S HAPPENING? AND SO, BUT LUCKILY WE GOT TO CELEBRATE IT ALL BY OURSELVES.
UM, IT WAS, IT WAS A VERY LOVELY MEETING AND IT WAS LOVELY TO HAVE SOME OF OUR LADIES COME AND REPRESENT.
UH, AND THEN WE HAD, UH, THIS LAST MONTH WE HAD SEVERAL CLASS VISITS THAT THEY'RE KIND OF GEARING UP TOWARDS THE END OF THE YEAR, GETTING THEM THEIR LIBRARY CARDS, TALKING ABOUT SUMMER READING, UH, PROGRAMING WE HAVE COMING UP.
UM, AND THEN WE PARTICIPATED IN THE NATIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS EARTH DAY STUDENT WALK.
UM, AND THE STUDENTS WALKED AROUND AT NATIONAL C TALK TO THE LEADERS OF THEIR DIFFERENT ESTABLISHMENTS.
SO THEY VISITED US AT THE LIBRARY.
WE ALL MADE OUR PLEDGE TO SAVE THE PLANET WITH THEM.
THEY GAVE A LITTLE PRESENTATION AND THEN THEY WENT TO THE FIRE STATION, POLICE STATION AND CITY HALL.
SO IT WAS REALLY, IT WAS REALLY LOVELY TO HAVE THEM.
AND THAT'S KIND OF ALL WE HAVE COMING UP RIGHT NOW.
AND WE, I MEAN, AS WE ROLL INTO SUMMER, THERE'S JUST, THERE'S GONNA BE A LOT OF PROGRAMMING AND, UH, AND EVENTS THAT ARE COMING UP.
UH, FIRST FOR THE, THE WINDOWS.
I HAVEN'T DONE A WALK AROUND 10, WELL, USUALLY I WALK WITH MY WIFE ALL THE TIME, BUT I, I THOUGHT, I JUST ASSUMED IT WAS STILL BROKEN.
UM, AND I KNOW WHEN YOU FIRST TALKED ABOUT IT OR PRIOR STUFF, YOU TALKED ABOUT THEM UPGRADING THE SECURITY POTENTIALLY OUT FRONT, FIGURING OUT A WAY TO HOPEFULLY PREVENT IT.
HAS ANYTHING LIKE THAT HAPPENED? SO THEY'RE WORKING ON A, A FLAN.
SO THE, THE ROCKS THAT LIVE OUT FRONT, YOU KNOW, ROCKS AND WINDOWS ARE NOT GREAT FRIENDS.
UM, THE ROCKS THAT LIVE OUT FRONT ARE PART OF, THEY WERE PART OF A GRANT FOR DRAINAGE.
AND SO THEY'RE WORKING ON ALTERNATIVES TO MOVE THE ROCKS AND HOW THAT'S GONNA LOOK BECAUSE, UM, THE LIBRARY DOES DRAIN DOWN FROM, UM, THE ROOF WHEN IT RAINS AND IT DOES COME OUT PRETTY HARD AND NOT SORT OF FRONT AREA.
SO THERE IS, THEY ARE LOOKING INTO THAT AND THEY ARE WORKING ON IT.
UM, WE PROBABLY, IT'S GONNA BE HIS 25, WE'RE SUPPOSED TO GET TWO CAMERAS IN THE FRONT SO WE CAN SEE THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF THE LIBRARY.
UM, AND I MIGHT RECOMMEND A COUPLE OTHER CAMERAS INSIDE THE BUILDING TO COVER SOME OF THE BLIND SPOTS THAT WE'VE BEEN SORT OF SEEING.
AND FOR THE, OUR CLASS, I'M JUST CURIOUS, LIKE A HIGH LEVEL GENERAL, WHAT'S THE LIKE, UTILIZATION OF THAT? BECAUSE I, I LOVE IT.
I WENT UP TO, UM, WHAT'S THE PLACE WITH THE POWER PLANT THERE? NEXT BEACH, PAST OCEAN SAY, UM, YEAH.
UM, BUT EVERY TIME I GET IT OPEN UP A BINDER WITHIN, THERE'S TONS OF THEM IN THERE.
SO I WAS JUST CURIOUS, I MEAN, IT'S A GREAT PROGRAM, BUT I CURIOUS HOW, HOW MUCH TO BE UTILIZED ON, WELL, SO IT, IT IS AVAILABLE AT ALL LIBRARIES.
SO IT DOES, YOU KNOW, IN THE BEGINNING WHEN IT CAME OUT IT WAS LIKE, OH MY GOSH, THIS IS SO AMAZING.
BUT NOW I THINK IT KIND OF DWINDLED A LITTLE BIT OVER TIME.
[00:40:01]
BUT, UM, WE DO HAVE NATURE BACKGROUNDS, SO WE HAVE NATURE BACKGROUNDS FOR THE KIDS, SO WE'RE TRYING TO PROMOTE IT THAT WAY.AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE AN ADULT VERSION OF LIKE, REAL HIKING BACKPACKS WITH LIKE, HIKING STICKS, BINOCULARS, ALL OF THAT THAT YOU COULD CHECK OUT.
WE'RE HOPING THAT WILL INSPIRE PEOPLE TO USE THE PARK PASS.
I APPRECIATE THE SMALL LITTLE FLYERS FROM A LITTLE FLYER, BUT WHAT PARKS ARE BUILDING.
YEAH, BECAUSE THAT, BECAUSE IT IS PART, I MEAN THERE, THERE ARE OTHER OBSTACLES BESIDES THE, THE FEED TO ATTEND THE PARKS AND GETTING THERE.
UM, WE DON'T HAVE ANY STATE PARKS YET IN NATIONAL CITY, BUT THANK YOU.
UM, ANY, USUALLY FOR THE CITY LIBRARIAN REPORT, WE HAVE AT LEAST A LITTLE BLURB, LIKE A SUMMARY THAT WE'RE GIVEN WITH THE NOTES.
I I THINK WE HAD BEEN HAVING THAT RIGHT? UM, DID SHE? I DON'T, I DIDN'T SEE IT UNLESS IT'S SENT ELECTRONICALLY.
SARAH MIGHT HAVE MISSED IT THIS WEEK.
UM, SHE IS OUT, SO SHE MIGHT HAVE MISSED SENDING IT TO YOU.
UM, BUT I WILL, I'LL REMIND HER TO MAKE SURE THAT, UM, THAT THAT WILL BLUR COMES OUT FOR YOU GUYS.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR US OR DO I BRING YES.
I'M, I WONDER IF THEY CAN PUT ME ANOTHER ONE.
I'LL SEE WHAT I CAN, I'LL SEE IF I CAN FIND.
I THOUGHT THEY WERE GONNA GIVE EVERYBODY ONE.
AND I, I'LL LOOK AND SEE IF WE CAN'T GET ONE.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS?
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY REPORT.
WE DID HAVE OUR TEA WITH SUFFRAGETTES, UM, DAY.
SOME OF THE GALS CAME DRESSED UP AND SOMEBODY WANTED, SOMEBODY REMARKED OUR, UH, PRESIDENT, LIBRARY PRESIDENT DRESSES UP AS SUSAN B. ANTHONY AT DIFFERENT EVENTS AND SOMEONE AT ONE OF THE TABLES SAID, I DIDN'T KNOW SUSAN WAS STILL ALIVE.
AND SO SHE GAVE KIND OF LIKE A, A, A BIOGRAPHY OF HER, AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY.
UH, SNACKS A TEA AND, UH, WE'LL DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR.
IT WAS VERY, WE HAD A GREAT, AND WE'RE ALREADY TALKING ABOUT OUR, UH, OPEN HOUSE.
WE ALWAYS HAVE OUR OPEN HOUSE, UH, FIRST FRIDAY IN DECEMBER, SO WE'LL BE DOING THAT IN DECEMBER.
ALRIGHT, SO WE'RE TWO BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS.
FIRST, JUST COMMEND THE STAFF.
I'VE BEEN TO MANY LIFE AND IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITES, BUT NICE.
I LIKE THE RECOMMENDED BOOKS ON TOP OF THE NEW BOOK SHELVES.
UM, I DON'T WANNA EXPECT 'EM TO GOOD THING.
SO I DIDN'T DID A QUESTION, UM, WHEN I WAS IN THERE LAST, I SAW THE WATER STATION.
I DIDN'T SEE A, SO LIKE A WATER BOTTLE FILLING STATION THAT'S, IT USED TO BE SO UNIQUE AND NOW IT'S SO WIDESPREAD AND I THINK SUCH A NICE FEATURE FOR ALL PEOPLE THAT SPEND FIVE 15 MINUTES THERE OR THE FULL DAY.
SO HAS THERE EVER BEEN ANY DISCUSSION ON GETTING THAT? THERE HAS BEEN A REQUEST TO CITY MANAGER AS WELL AS TO ENGINEERING TO HAVE ONE INSTALLED, SO YES.
ANYONE ELSE? I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOKS STORE.
UM, WOULD, IS THERE, SO CASH ONLY AT THIS TIME, IS THAT CORRECT? FOR THE BOOKS? YEAH.
IS THERE ANY WAY TO MAKE TO YOU THINK I WAS JUST IN THERE WITHOUT FASHION.
I GOT, SHE WAS VERY NICE AND SHE TAKE IT OUT 50 CENTS, BUT I WONDER IF THE PROFITS
[00:45:01]
WOULD BE A LITTLE BETTER.IT, LIKE, I PROBABLY BUY BOOKS IF I CAN.
THERE'S A WAY THAT, SO THE FRONT OF THE LIBRARY MONEY IS SEPARATE FROM THE LIBRARY MONEY.
UM, SO THE FRIENDS WOULD MOST LIKELY HAVE TO PURCHASE LIKE A DEVICE TO YEAH, WE, WE WOULD HAVE TO DISCUSS THAT.
I CAN DEFINITELY BRING IT UP AT OUR MEETING.
AGAIN,
I
UM, BUT VENMO MIGHT BE EASY OPTION EVEN IF THE STAFF, I KNOW SOMETIMES THE STAFF MEMBER OR THE, THE STAFF THERE MIGHT NOT HAVE VENMO SET UP, BUT IT'S ONLY SOMEONE DID.
AND YOU CAN STILL EASILY VERIFY THAT IT'S BEEN SENT ON THE PHONE ON THAT END AND THEN IT CAN BE TRANSFERRED OVER.
THEORETICALLY THE FRIENDS COULD CREATE THEIR OWN VENMO ACCOUNT AND THEN YOU JUST COULD A QR CODE WHICH WE COULD GIVE TO YOU AND THEN PEOPLE COULD SCAN THAT AND OPEN YOUR ACCOUNT AND PAY THAT WAY.
BUT YEAH, WE WILL HAVE TO TALK AT THE FRENCH.
WELL, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR EVERYTHING.
I I'LL MOVE TO AOR IN A SECOND.
OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE JUNE 5TH AT FIVE 30.
